Here’s what’s worth your attention in Milton Keynes this week.
Libraries Set for Record‑Breaking Year of Events
Milton Keynes City Council has announced plans for more than 2,500 free events across the city’s ten libraries in 2026, ranging from creative workshops and digital skills sessions to Lego clubs, exhibitions and family activities.
The programme is designed to increase community participation and make libraries more than just borrowing spaces — positioning them as active civic hubs across the borough.
Why it matters:
Events are spread across multiple neighbourhood libraries
Many are free
Several are aimed at families and children during term breaks

Shallow Gallery at centre:mk – Now Showing “HUM”
Milton Keynes has a new contemporary art space, and it’s not tucked away in a traditional gallery building.

Photo: centre:mk
Shallow Gallery, located inside centre:mk, is a new exhibition space designed to bring contemporary art directly into the heart of the city. The gallery forms part of a joint initiative between centre:mk and Arts Gateway, aiming to make high-quality visual art more accessible to everyday visitors.
If you’ve walked through Silbury Arcade recently, you may already have noticed the glass-fronted exhibition space – minimal, bright, and deliberately integrated into the shopping environment.
Current Exhibition: “HUM”
The gallery is currently hosting “HUM”, an exhibition exploring themes of sound, presence, and subtle environmental energy through contemporary visual work.

Photo: centre:mk
Rather than being a traditional “white cube” art experience, Shallow Gallery is designed to feel open and approachable – something you can step into while running errands or meeting friends in town.
If you’re curious but not usually a gallery-goer, this is an easy, low-pressure way to engage with new creative work in MK.
