Here’s what’s worth knowing in Milton Keynes this week.

Milton Keynes residents facing an immediate financial crisis can apply for short-term council help with essentials such as food, energy, household goods and some emergency costs.

The Crisis and Resilience Fund runs from 1 Apr 2026 to 31 Mar 2029. Crisis Payments are discretionary and can be considered when a sudden or unexpected problem leaves a household unable to meet essential needs, including utility bills, food, basic furniture or appliances and essential transport.

Applicants do not have to be receiving benefits. The council says applicants must normally be settled Milton Keynes residents, be facing an immediate financial crisis, have no savings that could resolve it, and be able to provide evidence. Applications take at least 48 hours to process and may take longer during busy periods.

The council said on 14 Sep that more than £1 million in crisis support was provided to Milton Keynes residents last year, helping thousands of people with costs including heating, food and replacement household goods.

Applications can be made online. Help with an application is also available through Citizens Advice, local libraries, children’s centres, Neighbourhood Support Services or an allocated social or support worker.

A free interactive dance and digital-art installation will take over part of Central Milton Keynes over the weekend of Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.

An Obscure Camera, by Flexer & Sandiland and presented by MÓTUS Dance at OFFSET Projects, reworks the idea of a camera obscura for the age of digital surveillance. Visitors can look through live digital peep-hole views of activity outside while dancers perform in and around the public space.

The project brings together professional dancers from Drift, members of the Open University Dance Group and Deep Roots Tall Trees, with shoppers and passers-by becoming part of the changing scene.

The Sunday performances form part of the wider MK MOTION Festival, which runs from 12–4:30pm across Middleton Hall, centre:mk and OFFSET Projects.

The installation is free and no registration is required.

The project is funded by Arts Council England and Milton Keynes City Council, with support from the Abderrahim Crickmay Charitable Settlement.

Tickets for three £3 Halloween Ghost Walks in Milton Keynes parks go on sale at 9am on Wednesday 23 Sep.

The Parks Trust is running one-hour evening walks at Great Linford Manor Park on Wednesday 14 Oct, Woughton Community Orchard on Friday 23 Oct and Loughton Valley Park on Thursday 29 Oct. Each walk runs from 6pm to 7pm and combines spooky storytelling, local legends and an after-dark park walk with Red Phoenix Storytelling.

The Parks Trust describes the walks as family-friendly and suitable for children aged 5 and over. Visitors are advised to wrap up warm and bring a torch.

Spaces are limited and tickets cost £3 per person. Bookings open on The Parks Trust website from 9am on 23 Sep.

Milton Keynes City Council has approved a new Bletchley and Fenny Stratford 2050 Vision Action Plan, setting out how the area’s longer-term regeneration ambitions will be taken forward.

The plan brings together short-term priorities and longer-term opportunities across five themes: revitalising the high street; jobs and skills; greener, healthier and safer communities; heritage and culture; and better connectivity and innovation.

Among the priorities are continued improvements to Queensway and Aylesbury Street, future redevelopment of the Brunel Centre, Police & Fire Station and Sainsbury’s car-park site, a flexible market and events space at Stanier Square, and better walking and cycling links.

The plan also includes ambitions for more energy-efficient homes at Serpentine Court, improved health and leisure facilities, an upgraded bus interchange, and better access to parks and green spaces.

Transport is another major part of the plan. Priorities include a new eastern entrance to Bletchley Station, a better station arrival experience on Saxon Street, improved links between rail, bus and cycling routes, and longer-term plans for a Mass Rapid Transit system.

Not every project is ready to go. The Action Plan itself distinguishes between projects that are Committed, Pipeline and Aspirational, and the council says individual schemes will still need their own funding, development work and approvals where required.

The MK Indie Book Fair 2026 returns to Middleton Hall at centre:mk on Saturday 26 Sep, bringing together 100 independently published authors and small presses for a free day of books, readings, discussions and family activities.

Visitors will be able to meet authors and publishers, browse and buy books, and explore genres including crime, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, memoir, poetry, children’s books, Young Adult, humour and travel writing. Entry to the main fair is free and no booking is required.

The programme also includes a panel on independent publishing from 11–11:45am, rolling author readings between 12–3pm, and a Worldbuilding Across Genres discussion from 3:15–4pm covering fantasy, science fiction, horror and speculative fiction.

Families can also visit a dedicated Children’s Activity Zone, with workshops, short readings and creative activities running during the day. Some workshops recommend advance booking, although families can also join activities on the day where space allows.
